It better be covered up!
I'm honestly not sure why they bother chroming this part! It's two pieces of pipe cut at an angle and welded together, BUT if you have ever done any welding classes (high school or college) you'd know that the edge of the puddle can get undercut. This is something like a little cliff in the surface of the metal as the weld pool melted some metal and sucked it away from the non-melted metal, leaving a sharpish edge. My adapter has some form of undercutting and voids of that sort on over 50% (probably closer to 70%) of the weld that joins the two pieces! I had to bastardize the stock heat shield over it to cover the bad weld job. If the pipe was stainless then the chrome is just for looks (bad because it's ugly and needs to get covered up!) but if it isn't then the chrome is to keep the rust away which isn't as bad because then it isn't for showing off and hopefully gets covered up.
I hope others get better quality control on their elbows if they want to leave them exposed, thus this part can only get two stars as the price and what arrived is only worth $25 as anyone with welding skill wouldn't have had the undercut and if they did they would have filled it and ground it flush so there was none.
