Customer Builds: Greg Simanson - Washington

This bike was built with a Ryca RR-1 Hardtail Bobber Kit.

Tell us a little about yourself and why you decided to build a RYCA.
I have been an artist in Seattle, WA by trade for about 25 years and have been a custom bike enthusiast for many years, love the artistry of a nice bike. This is my second build, first was a 78 Suzuki GS 750. Love the look of this conversion and have always liked bobbers.

How did you find your Suzuki? What year model? What shape was it in?

Found the bike through Craigslist Seattle, it is a 95 and was in great shape.

Did you sell the take-off parts? How much did you get?
Sold the tank and the a few other parts for around $100

Tell us about any mods or upgrades you did to your bike.
I did the paint by myself to give it a vintage finish, also added black drag bars, made my own fender struts, custom oil tank badge, powder coated wheels satin black.

How long have you been riding? What other bikes do you own?
About 3 years / None.

What's your occupation?
I am a Art Director for a creative agency, also do some side design work and illustration (simansondesign.com)

What advice would you give to future RYCA builders?
Be organized, take your time, mark your wires and hookups, hard tail can be a little tricky to make fit.

What was the best thing about building the bike?
The process is what I loved, building a custom bike by yourself without any help is very satisfying. Creating the overall vision was also great, went through many sketches and photoshop versions before I got it where I wanted it to go.

Tell us about any problems you had and how you solved them.
The hard tail bolt on was a little tough because it needed to be pressed upward to make it fit the two bolts. Also, some of the screw/bolt fittings were not easy to get on.

Anything else you want to add?
Really enjoyed the build and appreciated all the quick feedback to questions from Ryca (Ryan).

Thanks Greg, it was great to see the finished bike (one of the very first Ryca bobber projects). Very nice!
